Gasometer Pforzheim

A remarkably versatile venue

The Gasometer is an interesting industrial monument – a historical bell-shaped gas holder, 40 metres (131 feet) high, 40 metres (131 feet) wide, over 100 years old, and one of the last of its kind. It narrowly escaped the scrapheap and was given a new lease of life through a combination of heritage-sensitive restoration and high-quality contemporary interior design. The result was a new tourist attraction in the ‘Golden City’ – the Pforzheim Gasometer, a unique venue for exhibitions and events.

The giant 360-degree panorama AMAZONIA  display by Berlin artist Yadegar Asisi takes you on a journey of discovery through the tropical rainforest. It’s as though you were standing in a clearing, with a wide-open view of the Amazon rainforest, its towering treetops with buttress roots up to ten metres (33 feet) high, and its fascinating plants and animals, including strawberry poison dart frogs, mud-licking butterflies, graceful jaguars and agile ocelots.

Inside the cylindrical building, you can experience the panorama from different levels. Three central viewing platforms at heights of 6, 12, and 15 metres (18, 36, and 49 feet) offer ever-changing perspectives. You can explore the fascinating world of the rainforest, enhanced by an impressive light installation, realistic soundscapes, and music composed exclusively for this project by Eric Babak.
The Gasometer also features an exhibition with insights into the complex ecosystem of the rainforest, highlighting the immense importance of this natural environment, and why it needs to be protected. Our tour guide will take you on a journey through the rainforest, sharing some fascinating stories about its plants and wildlife.

The various spaces in the Gasometer are perfectly suited for hosting top-class events.
Whether you're planning a fine dining experience or an exclusive evening at the bar with a show and live band, the possibilities for creating an unforgettable event at the Pforzheim Gasometer are virtually endless.
