Tischlein Deck Dich e.V. is an initiative for healthy, delicious and sustainable school meals in Karlsruhe. We are committed to communicating strong and sustainable food-related values in schools, kindergartens and crèches. We advise and assist institutions in developing customised catering concepts, tailored to local needs, and combining social interaction, healthy nutrition, sustainable production (organic, seasonal and regional), fair trade and waste prevention with pleasure and enjoyment.
To prove this is possible, we set up “Vitale Lunchbox” (“The Healthy Lunchbox”) – a non-profit catering business for children which now cooks for around 2,000 children at approx. 40 institutions every day. For a similar price to “normal” food, we offer certified organic, regional, seasonal and fair trade meals – i.e. produced in accordance with our values. In addition, we maintain a close dialogue with our customers.
By working with local farmers, we are currently able to ensure that 70 percent of the food used throughout our school meal plan is organic. We use the freshest possible products – fruits, vegetables, herbs and even meat from the region. We provide school and daycare children with fresh, tasty, healthy food while remembering our responsibilities to the environment.
We have already successfully implemented a pilot project for mindfulness in primary school catering with a kitchen producing mostly freshly cooked meals at the Hans Thoma School.
KiKoMo – the sustainable, mobile children’s kitchen – will hit the road in Karlsruhe offering cookery classes at schools, crèches and daycare centres from the autumn of 2018. At project days and school fêtes, children will have the opportunity to discover just how delicious healthy food can be.
